It’s a very important question because the MOQ can be a deciding factor in whether their budget allows them to move forward with a manufacturer. What is MOQ and Why is it Important?

MOQ stands for ‘Minimum Order Quantity.’ Simply put, it’s the smallest number of products, in your case, bikinis, a supplier is willing to produce at one time. But why do swimwear manufacturers set MOQs? It’s not just about covering costs, but also about optimizing production processes. For example, swimwear fabric can be cut more efficiently when stacked in at least 20 layers, allowing manufacturers to use a special cutting machine. If it’s less than that, the fabric would need to be cut manually using scissors. 

MOQs can vary widely. Some bikini suppliers might require orders of 300 pieces, while smaller, more flexible manufacturers may offer MOQs as low as 100. The quantity also depends on whether the order is for a custom-designed bikini, made exclusively for the client, or for ready-made bikinis that the manufacturer already offers.

Knowing your swimsuit manufacturer’s MOQ upfront is essential because it allows you to figure out whether or not a partnership is feasible. It’s the cornerstone of any negotiation.
